Yemen has recorded the highest rates of food consumption deficiency, according to recent data distributed by the World Food Programme (WFP). The WFP confirmed that the proportion of severe food deprivation has risen to 79 percent in areas controlled by the Houthis, and four regions have entered an extremely critical stage of malnutrition.
In the monthly food security update for Yemen, the WFP reported that in July, 62 percent of households reported inadequate food consumption, the highest recorded figure ever. This includes 64 percent in areas controlled by the internationally recognized government and 61 percent in Houthi-controlled areas.
