More than 400,000 people evacuated in China’s Hainan province as Typhoon Yagi approaches
Chinese authorities in the key southern province of Hainan have pre-emptively evacuated more than 419,000 people as Typhoon Yagi approaches, the official Xinhua news agency reported Friday.
The typhoon is likely to be the strongest to hit China’s southern coast since 2014, the agency said after a meeting of flood control officials, which could complicate recovery efforts and make flood prevention work very difficult.
