Turkey and Hamas condemned the killing of a Turkish-American activist and the US ‘is deeply disturbed’

Israeli forces have shot dead an American activist of Turkish origin with a live bullet to her head.
Ezgi Eygi, 26, was shot in the head by Israeli forces in the town of Beita near Nablus during a protest against illegal Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank.

“This heinous act is a part of the occupation’s crimes against those who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people”, Hamas said in a statement.
These acts are “systematic and ongoing and are committed by occupation forces and settlers alike”, the statement added.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan denounced the killing of a Turkish-American activist in the occupied West Bank and criticized the deadly 10-day Israeli incursion.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the US “deplores” the death of American citizen Aysenur Ezgi Eygi in the occupied West Bank and will “act as necessary” to find out what happened. Asked if the US would take action against Israel, Blinken said: “First things first – let’s find out exactly what happened and we will draw the necessary conclusions and consequences from that.”
Earlier, the White House said in a statement it was “deeply disturbed” by the killing of a US citizen. Palestinian medics said the activist, who also had Turkish citizenship, was shot in the head and later died at the hospital.

A Muslim-American advocacy group asked the US Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate the killing of a Turkish-American activist in the occupied West Bank.
