The Vietnamese government announced today (Tuesday) that the death toll from Typhoon “Yagi,” which struck the country last weekend, has risen to 63, with 40 people missing.
According to a report from the Disaster Relief Agency, the floods and landslides caused by the devastating typhoon also resulted in 752 other people being injured. Typhoon “Yagi,” which made landfall in northern Vietnam near Haiphong on Saturday morning before weakening on Sunday evening, is, according to meteorologists, the strongest typhoon to hit northern Vietnam in 30 years, as reported by the French Press Agency.
The typhoon caused the collapse of bridges, damage to factories, the tearing off of rooftops, and the uprooting of many trees, with wind speeds exceeding 149 km/h.
