Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori died Wednesday in Lima at the age of 86, just months after he was pardoned for health reasons and released from prison, where he was serving a 25-year sentence for “crimes against humanity.”
“After a long battle with cancer, our father Alberto Fujimori has just died,” wrote Keiko, Hiro, Sachi and Kenji Fujimori, the late president’s children, on the X platform.
Fujimori, of Japanese descent, spent 16 years in a prison in eastern Lima before being released in December under a pardon granted for health reasons.
