Chile Requests to Join the Genocide Case Against the Israeli Occupation

The International Court of Justice announced that Chile had informed it of its request to join the genocide case filed by South Africa against the occupying entity, due to the war on Gaza.

It stated that Chile’s request to join was “its desire to present its views on the interpretation of the provisions of the Convention relevant to this case.” It also noted that Chile stressed in its request that the court should take into particular account the use of statements by senior Israeli officials related to genocide.

Chile became the eighth country to announce its accession to the genocide case in Gaza, after Nicaragua, Colombia, Libya, Mexico, Palestine, Spain, and Turkey.

Hamas welcomed Chile’s submission of its request to the International Court of Justice. The movement said, “We consider this step an affirmation of the humanitarian positions of the Republic of Chile and its bias towards the values of justice, and its rejection of the flagrant violations of international laws, and what our people in the Gaza Strip are facing at the hands of the extremist fascist Zionist clique.”

It appreciated “the position of Chilean President Gabriel Boric, who expressed his support for the rights of the Palestinian people and their struggle to achieve their freedom and right to self-determination and establish their independent state.”

Hamas called on the countries of the world to “join the genocide case filed against the Zionist entity in the International Court of Justice, and to escalate all forms of pressure on it, to stop its brutal war against our Palestinian people, and to prevent its leaders from escaping punishment for their crimes against humanity.”
