U.S. imposes tariffs on China

The United States on Friday imposed tariff increases of up to 100 percent on electric vehicles and 25 percent on their batteries on billions of dollars of Chinese goods that will take effect in two weeks.

The decision by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) came after a comment period on an earlier tariff announcement. The final increases “will target the People’s Republic of China’s harmful policies and practices that harm U.S. workers and businesses,” said USTR Catherine Tai.
