Houthis fire long-range missile at occupied territories, Netanyahu vows to respond

Israeli PM Netanyahu has vowed to retaliate after the Houthi group launched a hypersonic ballistic missile from Yemen to central occupied territories, evading air defenses and causing a fire near Tel Aviv.

The early morning attack triggered air raid sirens, including at Israel’s international airport, where Israeli media aired footage of people racing to shelters. There were no reports of casualties or damage.

The leader of the Houthis in Yemen, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, said that today’s operation against the Israeli occupation “comes within the framework of the fifth phase of escalation against the Israeli enemy and in support of the Palestinian people, and what is coming is greater. Our forces continue their operations at sea against ships linked to the Israeli, American, and British enemy, and they are successful and very effective.”

For its part, the Hamas movement praised the Houthi operation. It said in a statement, “We confirm that the Zionist enemy will not enjoy security unless it stops its brutal aggression against our people in the Gaza Strip,” stressing that the missile launch is “a natural response to the entity’s aggression against our Palestinian people.”
