Thousands of activists and leaders of Bangladesh’s opposition BNP demonstrated in the capital Dhaka on Tuesday, demanding early elections to bring about a transition to democracy.
The protesters gathered outside the BNP headquarters, where they raised slogans calling for early elections.
The protests come as the caretaker government headed by 2006 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus takes over the country.
The caretaker government has proposed reforms to various sectors of the country, including the Election Commission and financial institutions. However, major political parties, including the opposition BNP led by former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, are calling for fresh elections to be held soon.
