Putin extends two-year ban on Western food imports

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree extending a ban on agricultural products from Western countries for another two years, local media reported.

The ban, which will run from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2026, marks the first time the extension has exceeded one year.

The ban, which was originally imposed in August 2014, covers products from the United States, the European Union, Australia, Norway and Canada. The restrictions were later extended to other European countries, including Ukraine, in response to Western sanctions over the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
