World leaders to meet in New York for 79th UN General Assembly

The 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, one of the world’s biggest diplomatic events, opens in New York on Tuesday.

The heads of state and government of the countries represented at the UN will gather for the meeting, which runs until 30 September.

Cameroon’s Philemon Young will preside over the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, which will be opened by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

The UNGA is expected to be attended by 133 heads of state and government.

According to the agenda, the first speech will be delivered by the President of Brazil after the UN officials.

In keeping with a tradition dating back to 1955, the second speech will be made by the host country, the United States of America.
