The European Union (EU) warned in a statement that it will work to impose additional sanctions on the leaders of both sides of the war in Sudan, saying it “will not be a witness to genocide” in the country, which has been embroiled in a bloody war since mid-April.
The EU’s warnings coincided with the US announcement of a quadrilateral meeting in New York this weekend on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to discuss the Sudanese crisis, assess the challenges and jointly identify ways forward.
The meeting will bring together the United Nations, the United States, the European Union and a number of Arab countries.
