The World Food Programme reported that the ongoing crisis regarding the management of the Central Bank of Libya is directly affecting the rise in food prices locally, with an increase of 2.8% in the average food prices during July and August.
The report published on Monday indicated that the minimum cost of the food basket in Libya has risen to about 954 dinars, noting that the southern region is the most affected by the price increases.
This upward trend in food basket prices has been ongoing since January 2024, with prices overall rising by 17.8% compared to their levels at the beginning of the year, adding further pressure on Libyan households.
