The Tunisian coastguard has recovered the bodies of 13 migrants off Tunisia’s eastern coast, a judicial spokesman told AFP on Wednesday.
The recoveries took place on Tuesday and Wednesday and included “13 bodies of men believed to be from sub-Saharan Africa” off the coasts of Chebba and Silsila (east), said Farid Ben Jha, spokesman for the courts of Monastir and Mahdia.
An investigation has been launched to establish the details of the incident, he said.
Tunisia, along with Libya, is the main departure point in North Africa for migrants trying to cross the Mediterranean to Italy.
