The Russian defence ministry announced on Thursday that its forces had captured a town in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, continuing its months-long advance against Kiev’s forces in the region.

The ministry said in a statement that the army had “liberated the town of Okrainsk”, which was home to around 10,000 people before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in early 2022, according to AFP.
