Eight people were killed in a military helicopter crash in eastern Colombia.

The Colombian army said in a statement that the Huey 2 helicopter crashed in the city of Comaribo in the Vichada region.

After an intensive search operation, the helicopter was found with no survivors, the statement added.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro said in a post on the X platform that the crew was on a ‘humanitarian mission’, without giving further details.

In April, nine Colombian soldiers were killed when a military helicopter carrying them crashed in the north of the country.
