Iraq requests emergency meeting of the Arab League Council to discuss assistance to Lebanon

Iraq has submitted an official request to the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States to hold an emergency meeting of the League Council at the level of permanent delegates to discuss the issue of displaced persons and refugees in Lebanon and to provide assistance to the Lebanese Republic.

Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League, said in a statement today that the General Secretariat of the Arab League has circulated Iraq’s request among member states and consulted with Yemen, the current president of the Arab League Council session, and the Republic of Iraq, which submitted the request, to determine the date for holding the emergency meeting.

Lebanon has been subjected to widespread Israeli attacks targeting border villages and infrastructure, killing and injuring thousands of Lebanese and displacing hundreds of thousands of residents of the targeted areas.
