Tunisians are just three days away from voting for a new president on Sunday 6 October 2024.
This presidential election will be the twelfth in the country’s history and the third since the revolution of 14 January 2011.
The High Electoral Authority announced that more than 9 million Tunisians are eligible to vote on Sunday.
There are 5,013 polling stations and 9,669 voting centres across the country.
Tunisia’s electoral law requires each presidential candidate to collect 10 nominations from the Chamber of Deputies or the same number from the Council of Regions and Municipalities (the second chamber), 40 nominations from the heads of local, regional and municipal councils, or 10,000 nominations in 10 constituencies with a minimum of 500 voters per constituency.
On 8 September, the electoral commission held a press conference to announce the number of candidates whose nominations had been accepted for the presidential election.
Tunisia’s Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) announced the acceptance of the candidacies of three candidates for the presidential elections:
Kais Saied, the country’s current president; Zouhair Meghzawi, secretary general of the National Popular Movement; and Ayachi Zemal, leader of the Azmoun Movement and former member of the dissolved parliament.
