The United States (US) has imposed sanctions on Gani Hamdan Daglo, the brother of Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commander Mohamed Hamdan Daglo ‘Hemedti’, for ‘leading efforts to supply arms to continue the war in Sudan’.
Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army and RSF have been waging a war that has killed more than 20,000 people and displaced nearly 10 million, according to the United Nations.
UN and international calls for an end to the war are mounting to avert a humanitarian catastrophe, with millions at risk of starvation and death due to food shortages caused by the fighting, which has spread to 13 of the country’s 18 states.
