The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded on Friday to the Japanese anti-nuclear organisation Nihon Hidankyo, which brings together survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
Announcing the name of the winner, Norwegian Nobel Committee chairman Jørgen Watney Friedens said the committee had chosen to honour the organisation “for its efforts to create a world free of nuclear weapons and for proving through testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again,” according to AFP.
