The American website “Oil Price” reported a significant decline in the passage of oil tankers and petroleum products through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, while there was an increase in transit through the Cape of Good Hope.
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, the flow of crude tankers through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait decreased by 50% year-on-year in 2024.
In contrast, oil shipments through the Cape of Good Hope rose to 9.2 million barrels per day during the first eight months of the year, compared to 6 million barrels per day in the same period of 2023.
