Twenty-three people were killed and more than 40 others injured when Sudanese army aircraft bombed a market next to one of the main Rapid Support Forces (RSF) camps in Khartoum, where ‘fierce street fighting’ is taking place amid extreme uncertainty and secrecy on both sides about the course of the fighting, now in its third week.
The market is located in an area controlled by RSF, close to its main camp in Sports City, south of the Sudanese capital.
The army, backed by the Baraa Bin Malik Brigades, is pushing to retake the city.
Its forces are reportedly advancing in the al-Muqrin area on the west bank at the confluence of the Blue and White Niles, taking control of some high-rise buildings, while RSF affiliates say they have repelled new attempts to cross the White Nile bridge linking Omdurman and Khartoum, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers.
