More than 100,000 Sudanese refugees have arrived in Libya since the start of the war in Sudan in April, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
In a statement on Sunday, the UNHCR added that more than 29,000 people have registered with it since the end of the conflict, bringing the total number of refugees to more than 48,000.
Some 65,000 Sudanese have arrived through Kufra alone, at a rate of 300-400 new arrivals per day, the UNHCR said.
It noted that while the number of refugees registered with UNHCR is constantly increasing, the actual numbers could be much higher, as the difficult conditions of fleeing across the desert and the inability of many refugees to reach registration centres make it difficult to determine the exact number.
