China warned on Monday that the pursuit of ‘Taiwan independence’ was incompatible with peace in the region, as its military launched manoeuvres near the self-ruled island.

Taiwan independence and the establishment of peace in the Taiwan Strait are incompatible,’ Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said, warning that ‘provocations by pro-independence forces will inevitably be met with countermeasures’, according to AFP.
