Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez urged EU member states on Monday to respond to the request from Spain and Ireland to suspend the free trade agreement between the bloc and Israel due to its actions in Gaza and Lebanon.

For several months, Spain and Ireland have been holding discussions with other EU countries seeking to review the partnership agreement with Israel, citing potential violations of human rights clauses.

In February, the Prime Ministers of Spain and Ireland called on EU leaders to take action regarding the deteriorating situation in Gaza, demanding an immediate assessment of Israel’s compliance with human rights conditions outlined in the trade agreement.
