Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani announced on Tuesday a referendum to discuss a set of constitutional amendments, including a proposal to abolish legislative elections.
The Emir of Qatar explained that the Council of Ministers had completed the preparation of the draft constitutional amendments after a comprehensive review of the experience of the elections held in 2021. These elections sparked rare tribal tensions in the country, as some members of major tribes found themselves ineligible to vote.
