Recent statistics from the Sudanese Ministry of Health show that cholera cases have risen to 24,604, with 699 deaths, and the disease has spread to 11 out of 18 states.
According to the report “Interventions Against Cholera” issued yesterday, the incidence of infection has increased in some states such as Al-Jazeera, Sinnar, and White Nile, while it has decreased in others. Isolation centers have also seen a decline in the number of admissions, particularly in the states of Kassala, Khartoum, River Nile, Northern State, and Gedaref.
The health system in Sudan is experiencing significant deterioration and a severe shortage of medical supplies and medications due to ongoing conflict for over 18 months, leading to the spread of epidemics. Health officials noted that the cholera outbreak is attributed to weak countermeasures, exacerbated by the accumulation of waste that facilitates the breeding of flies.
