The Biden administration imposed new sanctions on three individuals and four companies on Wednesday due to their involvement in a network that evades U.S. sanctions and funds Hezbollah, which the United States designates as a terrorist organization.
Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, clarified that the sanctions also target individuals involved in the production and trafficking of Captagon, a harmful stimulant that threatens communities.
Miller emphasized that this activity is considered a source of funding for the Syrian regime and its supporters, including Hezbollah. The United States reiterated its commitment to cutting off Hezbollah’s access to the international financial system and will continue to target the illicit Captagon trade in the region.
