Russia and Ukraine exchange 190 prisoners

Russia and Ukraine have exchanged 190 prisoners of war in a new deal between the two countries.

The Russian defence ministry said in a statement that it had exchanged 95 Ukrainian POWs for a similar number of Russian prisoners held by Ukrainian forces, while Kiev has yet to confirm the exchange.

In a separate development, Ukraine announced yesterday that it had received the bodies of 501 soldiers killed in clashes with Russian forces, mainly in the east of the country, while Russian MP Shamsil Saraliyev said his country had received the bodies of 89 of its soldiers in return.

Despite the ongoing war between the two sides since February 2022, Moscow and Kiev have exchanged hundreds of prisoners in several deals, the most recent of which was last September, when 206 prisoners were swapped.
