Tunisian president sworn in for second term

President-elect Kais Saied was sworn in on Monday in a plenary session at the Bardo Palace in the capital in front of the Council of People’s Representatives and the National Council of Regions and Localities.

Saied won a second term as president in the 6 October elections, and the Independent High Electoral Commission announced on 11 October that he had won the first round with 90.69 per cent of the vote.

According to the official Tunis Afrique Presse news agency, the swearing-in ceremony was attended by the presidents of the two houses of parliament, the head of the government, the Mufti of the Republic, members of the government, members of the People’s Assembly, members of the National Council of Regions and Regions, as well as the archbishop of the Catholic Church in Tunis and the chief rabbi of the Jewish community in Tunis.

Article 92 of the Constitution stipulates that the President of the Republic shall take the oath of office before the Assembly of People’s Representatives and the National Council of Regions and Communities.
