Bulgarian authorities announced the dismantling of a counterfeiting network for euros, dollars, and Bulgarian Levs and the confiscation of a large quantity of counterfeit banknotes in the northern city of Shumen.

The operation resulted in the arrest of two individuals within the network, who had criminal records.

According to the European Central Bank, counterfeit euro banknotes have been detected in several EU member states.
