The parliament in Belarus has announced the date for the new presidential election on January 26, 2025.
The current president, Alexander Lukashenko, who has ruled the country for three decades, has not revealed whether he will run for the elections or not.
The last elections in 2020 witnessed protests by the opposition and several countries around the world, accusing the authorities of falsifying the results, which showed Lukashenko winning 80% of the vote.
