The Russian army has made progress in Ukrainian territory, capturing 478 square kilometers since the beginning of October, marking the largest monthly gain since March 2022, according to an analysis by foreign media based on data from the American Institute for the Study of War.

By October 27, Russian forces controlled a larger area than what they had seized in August and September, which were 477 and 459 square kilometers respectively, particularly in eastern Ukraine.
