Typhoon Trami has left seven people dead, one missing and more than 40,000 evacuated in the southern Chinese province of Hainan.
China’s official Xinhua news agency reported that ‘Trami’ is the 20th typhoon of the year and has brought heavy rains to many parts of Hainan province.
China’s Ministry of Water Resources has declared a Level 4 emergency response to flooding caused by the typhoon’s widespread impact in Hainan, and placed the city of Qionghai, one of the worst-hit areas, under the highest level of emergency response to flooding and wind.
The ministry sent a task force to the frontline to lead the flood relief efforts, focusing on evacuating people from high-risk areas.
