The UN Security Council approved a resolution today, Thursday, extending the mandate of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya until January 31, 2025, just hours before the current mandate expires on October 31.

The resolution, read by the President of the Security Council during a meeting in New York, stated that the mission’s mandate will automatically extend for an additional 9 months if a special representative of the Secretary-General is appointed to head the UN Support Mission in Libya.
