The monthly report released by the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat showed an increase in the number of intentional homicides in the state in September.
Last month, 242 cases of intentional homicide were reported, compared to 239 in the same month last year. This was the highest number of intentional homicides recorded this year. It is also the first time since April that the index has exceeded 200 cases.
The number of rapes also increased over the period, from 1,249 in September 2023 to 1,337 this year. This was also the highest figure for the year. As for female homicide, 24 offences were reported in September.
The number of robberies resulting in death fell from 16 last year to 15 this year. The total number of robbery offences fell from 17,899 in September last year to 14,231 this year.
According to the SSP, this type of crime has been on a downward trend since June and the monthly averages are the lowest in the historical series since 2001, when the recording of criminal incidents began.
