Peru approves entry of US military personnel to help secure APEC summit.

The Peruvian Congress on Thursday approved President Dina Polwarte’s request to allow US military personnel into the country to help secure the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.

Congress voted 63-23, with seven abstentions, to allow 600 US military personnel to enter Peru between 4 and 24 November to provide administrative, logistical and security support to US President Joe Biden during the 2024 APEC meetings.

The meetings are scheduled to take place between 10 and 16 November in Lima, Pisco and Chiclayo.
