Moldova’s President Maia Sandu won a second term in Sunday’s presidential run-off.
Sandu won 54 per cent of the vote to 46 per cent for her rival Alexander Stojanoglu, a former prosecutor general.
In a speech after her victory, Sandu said the government must prepare the country for parliamentary elections scheduled for next summer and preserve democracy.
Sandu won the first round of the presidential election on 20 October with 42.5 per cent of the vote, compared to Stojanoglu’s 26 per cent.
