South Africa has temporarily closed its main border crossing with Mozambique due to security concerns amid ongoing protests over the results of last month’s disputed elections in Mozambique, the country’s official news agency said on Wednesday.
The agency added that South Africa had closed the Lebombo port in Mpumalanga province following reports of vehicles being set on fire on the Mozambican side of the border.
Michael Masiyabato, the commissioner in charge of border management, was quoted by the agency as saying on Tuesday night that border authorities would reopen the crossing as soon as the situation was safe
