Biden vows to peacefully hand over power to Trump on 20 January

US President Joe Biden has pledged to peacefully hand over power on 20 January after former President Donald Trump won the election.

Biden said in Washington: “I will do my duty as president. I will uphold my oath and I will uphold the Constitution. On 20 January, we will have a peaceful transfer of power in America,’ Biden said in Washington.

Biden expressed his intention to make the most of his final days in office.

Trump refused to accept the results of the election he lost to Biden four years ago. He unsuccessfully challenged the result in court and distanced himself from Biden’s inauguration.

The Republican president-elect’s campaign team announced that Trump had accepted Biden’s invitation to visit the White House.

Trump is gearing up for a historic second term in office after defeating Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential race.
