Mexico: 11 bodies found in abandoned truck

Mexican authorities have found 11 bodies, including two minors, in an abandoned pickup truck on a street in the city of Chilpancingo, capital of the southern state of Guerrero, local authorities said on Thursday.

An anonymous tip on Wednesday night led authorities to the bodies of nine men and two women left in the city’s Parador del Marquez neighbourhood, the state prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

A forensic team has been sent to the site to identify the victims and an investigation into the murders is ongoing.

The victims are believed to be part of a group of 17 vendors who disappeared two weeks ago, according to local media. The group was reportedly selling household goods in the Ibazote neighbourhood when contact was lost, prompting the state Public Security Secretariat, the National Guard and the army to launch a search operation.

The Mexican state of Guerrero has been plagued by violence for years due to drug trafficking and production in the state.
