Dutch police say 62 people have been arrested and five injured after fans of Israeli football team Maccabi Tel Aviv caused chaos and vandalism in Amsterdam, while an Israeli plane flew into the Dutch capital to evacuate the team’s supporters, whose number Israel estimated at 2,700 and said was waiting to be evacuated.
Dutch police said in a post on social networking site X that they had launched a major investigation into the multiple incidents of violence. The post gave no further details about those injured or arrested in last night’s violence.
A statement from the Dutch capital’s municipality, police and public prosecutor’s office said the night after the Europa League match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv was “very turbulent with several incidents of violence against Maccabi supporters”.
