Brazil deploys 9,000 troops for G20 security

The Brazilian government has announced that 9,000 troops will be deployed to provide security at the G20 summit in Brazil.

Starting on Wednesday, the defence ministry will deploy 9,000 soldiers across the armed forces during the G20 summit, the government said in a statement.

The 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit will be held next week in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 18-19 November, under the theme “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet”, with the participation of member states as well as the African Union and the European Union.

Brazil will hold the G20 presidency from 1 December 2023 to 30 November 2024.
