On Tuesday Brazil inaugurated the Social Engagement Pavilion at the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The pavilion, with the theme “Green Transformation Pathways”, is a space for meetings, dialogue and the presentation of Brazilian initiatives to combat climate change.
In the presence of the Brazilian delegation, Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alckmin highlighted Brazil’s leading role in global discussions and negotiations on climate change.
Alckmin highlighted the regulation of the carbon market in the National Congress, the reduction of deforestation as part of the country’s efforts to achieve zero deforestation, and the nationally determined contribution with greenhouse gas emission reduction targets that he described as very bold.
We are moving from 2.2 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalent to a target of 850 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent by 2035,” he said.
