Japanese Foreign Minister, Toshimitsu Iwaya, arrived in Ukraine for an unannounced visit, where he will hold talks with Ukrainian officials in a move reflecting Japan’s continued support for Kyiv in its fight against the Russian invasion.
Iwaya arrived in Ukraine from Peru, after attending a regional economic meeting, according to Kyodo News.
He is expected to meet his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha, on Saturday, with a potential meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky later in the day.
Japan continues to support Ukraine alongside the United States and its allies, while maintaining economic sanctions against Russia since the war began in February 2022.
