The Israeli army called up more religiously observant individuals on Sunday to reinforce its forces on the southern and northern borders, a move that could heighten tensions among Israelis.
This comes after a decision by the Supreme Court in June, ruling that religious students would no longer receive blanket exemptions from military service, a policy that had been in place since 1948.
According to the Ministry of Defense, notifications will be sent gradually to about seven thousand individuals from this community, with coordination with their leaders to ensure they can maintain their religious lifestyles while serving in the military.
