Brazilian police have arrested five officers in connection with a coup plot to overthrow the government and assassinate President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in 2022, authorities said on Tuesday.

According to the investigation, the coup plotters were planning to assassinate Vice President Geraldo Alckmin and Supreme Court President Alexandre de Moraes. The five arrested are four army officers and one police officer, according to Brazilian media reports.
