Ukraine Estimates Environmental Damage from the War at $71 Billion

Ukrainian Minister of Environment, Svitlana Herinchuk, reported at the COP 29 conference in Baku that the war in Ukraine has caused massive environmental damage estimated at $71 billion, with 180 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
Additionally, around 3 million hectares of forests were lost, and 139,000 square kilometers were contaminated with explosives debris.
Furthermore, the displacement of 6 million Ukrainians to European countries contributed to an increase of 3.3 million tons in carbon dioxide emissions.
