336 Violations Against Journalists Recorded in Three Years of Taliban Rule in Afghanistan

The United Nations has documented 336 violations against journalists in Afghanistan since the return of the Taliban in August 2021, including 256 arbitrary arrests, 130 cases of torture, and 75 threats.
A UN report highlighted the escalation of censorship and restrictions, amid concerns over the Promotion of Virtue law, which threatens to exclude women from the media.
Additionally, the number of media workers dropped from 8,400 to 5,100 within three years, as Afghanistan fell to 178th place globally in press freedom rankings.
