A small plane with six people on board has crashed near Pico Blanco mountain, south-east of the Costa Rican capital.

Costa Rican civil aviation authorities said the plane was a Cessna 206 Station Air. Search and rescue teams found the wreckage on the mountainside, but the condition and identities of the passengers have not been released.

The plane had taken off from Tortuguero, on Costa Rica’s northern Caribbean coast, en route to the capital, San Jose.
